Tas-Mania

So its been a couple of years now since I took a complete sea-change in life and went out alone with my photography business. Of course there have been challenges but overall I am significantly happier than I was in my previous life.

Sometimes though I find its easy to get caught up in the running of the business; the admin, the marketing and the networking. And some of the jobs I do, enjoyable as they are to me, do not necessarily reflect the reasons that I fell in love with Photography in the first place.

So recently when Truc was sent to Tasmania on a conference I jumped at the opportunity to join her (not for the conference of course). Tasmania is one of my favourite places in the world and no matter how many times I go there I’m always blown away by its natural beauty.

So armed with a hire car, a bag full of camera gear and bucket load of snacks I ventured out and enjoyed a few fabulous days in Hobart and its surrounds.

The first day was spent visiting the region North of Hobart including the quaint old military towns of Oatlands and Richmond

From there we visited Bruny Island, a short hop from Hobart but home to gorgeous scenery and some awesome local produce. I particularly loved the old lighthouse on it’s Southern tip and we were fortunate enough to get a fascinating private tour.

I then travelled across to the Tasman Peninsula and spent a great few hours at Port Arthur, this is so well set up for tourists, beautifully preserved and interestingly presented.

The highlight of the trip though was my day in the Huon Valley and Hartz Mountains. Not only did I get to wander in the snow for the first time in years but I also had pretty much the whole mountain to myself. I was totally captivated by the place and I think I captured some truly memorable images. It reminded of why I got into photography ..as well as hiking and my love of the outdoors.

And so back to Hobart, no trip to which is complete without a venture up to the top of Mount Wellington. Freezing winds and menacing skies met me at the summit. As day turned into night again I found myself all alone but totally enthralled with the incredible views of Hobart below.
